Pedro Martinez (199-84; 2.72)

The Mets won their 5th straight game last night on the strength of Pedro Martinez's 199th career win.

7 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 K

Pedro loaded the bases in the 6th inning with no outs trying to protect a 3-1 lead. After striking out Jose Vidro with a rising 91 MPH fastball away for the first out, he had to face mortal bloodfeud enemy Jose Guillen. Running the count to 2-1, Pedro was able to turn over a fastball on the outside corner, getting Guillen to chop the ball to Reyes, forcing a beautifully turned 6-4-3 double play that featured a sprawled out Anderson Hernandez hanging in tough against a hard slide from Brandon Watson. It was an electric inning, and pure Pedro.

Pedro goes for 200 Monday against Atlanta at Shea. Jorge Sosa is the scheduled starter for Atlanta.
