Pitchfork Lists, Old Baseball News Refried...

I've been feeling uninspired lately, where the blog is concerned. I need Spring Training images (right around the corner) to kick me in my hindquarters.

Pitchfork has recently compiled a list of the 100 greatest albums and 100 greatest singles of the first 5 years of this decade. Here are the top fifteens of each-

  3. Interpol- Turn on the Bright Lights

  4. OutKast- Stankonia

  5. The Avalanches- Since I Left You

  6. Sigur Rós- Ágætis Byrjun

  7. Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antarctica

  8. White Stripes- White Blood Cells

  9. Animal Collective- Sung Tongs

  10. The Streets- Original Pirate Material

  11. Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

  12. Daft Punk- Discovery

  13. Madvillain- Madvillainy

  14. Spoon- Kill the Moonlight

  15. Dizzee Rascal- Boy in Da Corner

Here is my personal top fifteen-

  8. Missy Elliott- "Work It"

  9. The Rapture- "House of Jealous Lovers"

  10. Yeah Yeah Yeahs- "Maps"

Here's my take...

  1. OutKast- "Bombs Over Baghdad"

  2. Justin Timberlake- "Cry Me a River"

  3. Missy Elliott- "Work It"

  4. Franz Ferdinand- "Take Me Out

  5. Kylie Minogue- "Can't Get You Out of My Head"

  6. The Avalanches- "Frontier Psychiatrist"

  7. The Hives- "Hate to Say I Told You So"

  8. Beyoncé [ft. Jay-Z]- "Crazy In Love"

  9. R Kelly- "Ignition (Remix)"

  10. Nirvana- "You Know You're Right"

  11. White Stripes- "Seven Nation Army"

Everybody loves these lists. Including me. Anyway, watched Ray tonight, and I wasn't in love with it. Kind of obvious, color-by-numbers bio-movie. Foxx can pretty much clear out space in his suitcase for that effin' Oscar though. He deserves it too. Pretty impressive.

Sammy Sosa traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Jerry Hairston and two mL prospects. I get that Chicago really felt it needed to rid themselves of Sammy- I guess he and Dusty hate each other. But what I don't get is having literally NO backup plan to replace his production. His "production" is declining, sure, but that certainly doesn't mean their remaining options are better. They lost Alou as well- which currently makes Corey Patterson the best hitter in that outfield. YIKES.

Magglio Ordonez signed a 5-year $75 million dollar contract with the Detroit Tigers. It's a ton of money for a guy that had to go to Germany to get his knee checked- but the genius is in the escape clause- so yea, it's a lot of money... if he stays healthy and plays to his ability, which means it'll be worth it, all told. If his knee is degenerative, the Tigers are off the hook. Good signing. It's also nice to see a struggling team like that get a great player like Ordonez, and just in the interest of not sacrificing potential talent, I really hope he stays healthy. He's a terrific hitter.

I have some more interviews up at TWEED, including Tegan & Sara and Owen, with Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys upcoming.

"Bombs Over Baghdad" is one of the best songs ever!

Oh yeah and I think Scott Boras may have pictures of every GM and owner in MLB screwing donkeys or something. It's the only legitimate explaination for these obscene contracts.

Correction, B.O.B. is the best song ever. Good post but none of the pictures are coming up for me. You know how I like pictures.
