Now THAT is a FUCKING WIN!

Wow. WOW.

BOS 3
NYY 2
WP- Mike Timlin (5-4)
LP- Mariano Rivera (4-2)
SV- Keith Foulke (30)
HR- J Damon (17), J Olerud (8)

Wins don't come much more satisfying. This win was so satisfying- sorry, Barry- it pushed Bonds 700th HR off the top of the post. Awesome stuff. A couple of quick points.

  • Tony Orlando Cabrera had the biggest hit of his career in the 9th tonight to tie the game. Nails.

  • Manny Ramirez's catch to rob Miguel Cairo was, without question, the defensive play of the year. No arguments. Watch how long he had to go to reign it in.

  • Bronson Arroyo- nails. One bad pitch all night. You know that iffy feeling you get when a pitcher goes out there against the Yankees that you just don't trust? Don't get it with Death Wish.

  • Johnny. Fucking. Damon.

  • Keith Foulke is, without question, the biggest free agent acquisition for a team prior to this year relative to the weakness said player filled. More important than Sheffield, more important than Guerrero, more important than... anyone. HUGE.

  • This win rivals the shot in the arm the Mueller winner gave us. Huge. We were all but dead- then Nixon works a walk after falling behind 0-2, Millar gets on, Cabrera drives in Roberts after HIS steal, Damon smacks the game winner. Foulke- and it's over.

  • I'm reeling.

  • Congrats to Barry Bonds, 700 HRs, and many thanks to Paul O'Neill for mentioning him in the Red Sox/ Yankees game tonight. I had been checking his ABs all night, and sort of forgot it in the heat of the moment. I had a space of time to check after Paul mentioned it, and turned literally as Bonds strode to the plate. He hit 700 in that AB, an opposite field shot off San Diego's Jake Peavy.

I don't mind saying it- I absolutely love watching Barry Bonds. His last 4 seasons are probably the greatest 4 years of any baseball player in history, and watching him now allows us to see what it was like to see Ted Williams hit, and Babe Ruth hit, and Mickey Mantle hit- only now, and more dominant. Any talk that anyone else should win the MVP this year is operating a few chromosomes short of a full tank (just like the mooks at the Stadium chanting for Sheffield's MVP- it's Manny, numbnuts).

    Well done Barry. 800?
